Alan G. Hodgkiss
Alan G. Hodgkiss was a Principal Experimental Officer in the University of Liverpool, where he was in charge of the cartographic unit of the Department of Geography for thirty-seven years. He prepared maps and diagrams to illustrate over one hundred books as well as for numerous scientific journals. A founder member of the British Cartographic Society and of the Society of University Cartographers, he edited the latter’s journal, the SUC Bulletin, from 1964 to 1973. He wrote Maps for Books and Theses (David and Charles, 1970), Understanding Maps: A Systematic History of their Use and Development (Dawson, 1981) and was co-author with A.F.Tatham of Keyguide to Information Sources in Cartography (Mansell, 1986).
