Elizabeth Shee Twohig
Elizabeth Shee Twohig studied archaeology at University College, Cork, and obtained her MA degree for a theses on ‘Irish passage grave art outside the Boyne Valley’. She was then awarded the National University of Ireland Travelling Studentship in Archaeology, which enabled her to do fieldwork and research throughout western Europe in 1968-71 and to compile a record of all the carvings and paintings on the megalithic tombs of the area. She was awarded the PhD degree in 1973 and her records and analysis of megalithic art were published by the Clarendon Press, Oxford, as The Megalithic Art of Western Europe in 1981. Dr Shee Twohig has been lecturer in the Department of Archaeology, University College, Cork, since 1971. She has written many specialist papers, mainly dealing with megalithic art and related topics. She has carried out excavations in Ireland and has held office in various local archaeological societies. She is currently involved with the introduction of archaeology in the school curriculum in Ireland and also with the Irish Young Archaeologists’ Club.
