James Hodge

James Hodge, MA(Cantab), CEng, FIMechE, MRAeSoc, MemASME, was born in 1920 at St Austell, Cornwall, and was educated there and at St John’s College, Cambridge. He was with Power Jets Ltd during the Second World War and later with Power Jets (R & D) Ltd as Chief Engineer. His experience also included periods at Harwell and as visiting professor of mechanical engineering at Columbia University in New york. He returned to Cornwall in 1958 to join Holman Bros of Camborne as chief engineer and was later engineering director, retiring from the board in 1974. Interested in the history of engineering, he is a member of the Newcomen Society and was chairman of the Trevithick Society for many years.
