Mavis Batey

Mavis Batey has done much toestablish garden history as a valid historical subject through her lectures and writing. She has a wide-ranging interest in gardening in the context of literature and writing. She has a wide-ranging interest in gardening in the context of literature, art, and social and landscape history. She has been a pioneer in the conservation of historic parks and gardens and was Honorary Secretary of the Garden History Society from 1971 to 1985 and subsequently its President. Previous publications include Oxford Gardens, 1982; The Historic Gardens of Oxford and Cambridge, 1989; The English Garden Tour (with David Lambert), 1990; Arcadian Thames, 1994.
