Merfyn Williams

Merfyn Williams was born and bred in Gwynedd, North Wales. From 1976 until 1989 he worked at the Snowdonia National Park Study Centre at Plas Tan y Bwlch, Maentwrog, initially as Deputy Principal and then as Principal. In 1989 he took up a post as Senior Lecturer in Environmental at the Normal College, Bangor. He tutored courses on industrial archaeology, particularly that of the slate industry. He was co-author in 1987 with Dr. M. J. T. Lewis of a well received book, Pioneers of Ffestiniog State. He has been instrumental in surveying, recording and consolidating many past industrial sites within the National Park. He was Director of Cynnal Cymru - sustainable development forum for Wales 2003 - 2005, and a free-lance consultant from 2005 until his death.
