Peter Johnson
After graduating from the University of Leicester in 1978 Peter Johnson undertook post-graduate research at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne on the geometric reportory and dating of Romano-British mosaics. He has presented numerous papers on mosaics, notably at successive International Colloquia on Ancient Mosaics at Ravenna and Trier. he organised the 5th International Colloquium at Bath in 1987 and co-edited the papers, published in 1994. In 1978 he co-founded ASPROM, the Association for the Study and Preservation of Roman Mosaics, of which he is now Vice Chairman. Since 1988 he has been a member of the Council of Administration of the parent organisation, L’Association pour l’Etude de la Mosaique Antique (AIEMA). From 1986 to 1990 he was Secretary of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics. Peter Johnson has excavated widely at Roman sites in Britain, France and Spain. From 1980 to 1991 he was Assistant Archaeological Director of the Littlecote Roman Villa project and since its founding in 1988 he has been Secretary of the Roman Research Trust.
