Author PROFILE

Russell Ash

Russell Ash has written and contributed to more than 50 non-fiction titles on such subjects as art (particularly the Impressionists and other late nineteenth-century painters, including Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Sir Edward Burke-Jones), animals real and fictitious (he is the author of The Pig Book and the official ‘biographer’ of Paddington Bear) and humour (The Cynic’s Dictionary, The Yuppie Handbook and, as a co-author, Bizarre Books). He has also compiled various popular reference titles, such as The Londoner’s Almanac and, since 1989, the annual The Top 10 of Everything and related titles, The Top 10 of Sport and The Top Ten of Music. He is an occasional journalist, with articles in a wide range of magazines and most recently in The Independent. Discovering Highwaymen was his first book, and so it is with special pleasure that he has had the opportunity to revise and reissue it 25 years after its original publication.
