Julian Paget

Sir Julian Paget was born in London in 1921 and was educated at Radley College and at Christ Church, Oxford, where he obtained a degree in modern languages. He was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards in 1941 and served for 27 years, both overseas and on ceremonial duties in London, where he commanded The Queen’s Birthday Parade in 1962. In 1972 he was appointed a Gentleman Usher to The Queen and in the same year succeeded his uncle to a baronetcy, becoming the fourth Baronet. He is editor of The Guards Magazine and lectures in both Britain and the United States about ceremonial and pageantry, having been involved in most state occasions over the years. he has written a number of books on both history and ceremonial, including The Story of the Guards, The Pageantry of Britain and The Yeoman of the Guard.
