Here at the Shire Journal we are delighted to bring you another guest author. Lucy Inglis runs the 'Georgian London' website, which has recently won the 'History Website of 2009' as voted for by the online readers of History Today magazine. Most of the time Lucy can be found swimming around the 18th century but today she is looking closer to home, and her own experiences at her grandparents small-holding.

For the month of February the Shire journal will be concentrating on farming, agriculture and garden history. With a themed competition, a reading list and a list of other websites or news stories that have caught our eye the journal this month will be a valuable resource to anyone interested in these subjects. We are also proud to welcome a number of guest authors to the journal this month.

Since starting work at Shire I have been fascinated by a number of books on a range of subjects. One of my favourites has always been Vanished Armies - A.E. Haswell Miller's record of the military uniforms worn in various European countries.
