Filming and Baking!

It’s been a busy week of filming and baking! On Monday I was in Mablethorpe talking to Madness frontman Suggs for a new series called ‘My Brilliant Britain’ to be shown on digital channel Blighty. Suggs is a big fan of sheds and has had a family beach hut at Whitstable for years. We were on the Lincolnshire coast to film the artistic huts built as a result of the Bathing Beauties competition. The rain held off and the curvaceous stripy hut known as Jabba looked particularly good among the dunes. But Suggs is a traditionalist and isn’t about to give up his hut for a twenty-first century version. He did go home with a copy of my book on beach huts and bathing machines though.
    Back in West Sussex I’d organised a local book launch in the independent bookshop around the corner from where I live. The night before I rather rashly decided to bake a cake for the occasion then spent Wednesday afternoon with my fingers covered in various shades of food colouring as I tried to turn my sponge into a beach hut courtesy of ready-roll icing! My effort was repaid when one of my guests thought it had been made by a professional! It tasted pretty good too… And I even sold a few books.
